Single Use Planet: A Collaborative Art Exhibition

Year 4 Finton House pupils created sculptures and paintings for Single Use Planet: A Collaborative Art Exhibition at Southside Shopping Centre from 19th April to 5th May 2023.

They experienced the thrill of seeing their works on public display alongside pieces by over 35 other Wandsworth primary schools. The project was run by Wandsworth Council’s arts and children’s services team alongside the Royal College of Art and Kids Against Plastic to encourage young people to engage with the climate emergency. Young RCA graduate, Blake C Joshua, led on the exhibition and explained the concept underpinning the initiative, “Single use plastics are often an out of sight out of mind topic, they are all around us but what happens at the end of their lifecycle? Where does it go? What are the repercussions? I wanted (the children) to create an open dialogue and highlight these questions with practical craft-based activities.” Joshua particularly impressed by the quality of the children’s sculptures and commented that the tentacles of the jellyfish were “dynamic”.
