School Reporters Interview Miss Emma Arnott, Music Teacher

Welcome back from maternity leave, Miss Emma! Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your career for those who don’t know you?

I think this is my eighth year at Finton, as I joined in 2015! I was a Class Teacher in Bristol and Bath before then, but moved to London because I missed teaching Music. I have an MA with Distinction in Music Education from UCL which I completed last year.

What is your specialist instrument?

I studied piano at university for my recitals – I even accompanied my now-husband! However, what people may not know is that the majority of performing I do is in barbershop groups.

What are the biggest changes you’ve noticed in school since you left?

The Upper School music room, for one! I am also now working with the lovely Miss Maria and lots of other new staff. Aside from that, the children are much taller and there are also jacket potatoes every lunchtime.

What event are you most excited for this year?

All the live concerts, because in the couple of years before I left to go on maternity leave the concerts were either recorded or outside!

 What’s your favourite school lunch?

It has to be meatballs with garlic bread… yum.
