PSB Learning Skills

A Lifelong Love of Learning

Our motto of ‘Open Hearts and Guiding Hands’ is central to all we do, with a strong emphasis on nurturing a lifelong love of learning. To help prepare pupils for an ever-evolving future, we have partnered with the Learning Skills Trust to implement the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate (PSB); a practical, research-informed framework that sits alongside our curriculum.

This holistic educational framework aligns with our values and supports academic success while explicitly teaching how to learn. It develops eight core learning skills which are essential qualities for life-long success: Thinking & Learning, Curiosity, Communication, Collaboration, Independence, Leadership, Imagination and Reviewing & Improving. Embedding these into everyday learning builds a strong foundation for habits of mind and supports the growth of well-rounded, adaptable individuals. These skills are woven through lessons, projects and co-curricular activities, giving pupils repeated, structured opportunities to practise and reflect.

By making learning visible and language explicit, PSB helps pupils grow in confidence, resilience and adaptability. The result is well-rounded young people who not only achieve academically but can explain how they learn, work with others and are equipped with the skills to conquer both current and future challenges.
