Children join us in Reception from a wide range of local nurseries. There are three classes, based in large, purpose built classrooms, and they are staffed by experienced and well qualified teachers and assistants. Children stay for half days at first, whilst they get used to the routine of “big school”.
Classes are warm and welcoming, with free choice play at morning drop off and parents invited into classrooms. The school day is from 9:00am – 3:30pm, with activities arranged around morning and afternoon playtimes and a healthy and delicious lunch and playtime from 12:00 - 1:00pm.
Specialist taught subjects such as French, Art, Computing, Games, Swimming and Music are spread throughout the week and complement the core learning that takes place in the classroom.
There is lots of opportunity for outdoor learning in the playground and front garden, but also further afield as the children visit Wandsworth Common, shops and local services to find out about “People Who Help Us”.
Early Intervention groups led by experienced assistants aim to boost children’s confidence in areas such as Fine Motor Skills, Speech & Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Social Skills.
Children are made to feel special through “All About Me” displays and presentations, and they love the crowns and badges that are presented to the “Star of the Week” in each class.
On Friday afternoons the children enjoy visiting each other’s classes for a range of freely chosen activities, both indoors and outside.
Parents and grandparents are invited to visit and look at children’s work, and nativity and class plays are a highlight of children’s first year at school.
