Homework

At Finton House we believe in a sensible balance between work and play. There is a real value in having parents share a regular interest in their children's work: it motivates and raises enthusiasm. Talking about work at home engages the pupil in their learning and facilitates better memory.

Children in Reception and Year One will bring books home to share with their parents, or they may have a few words to practise at home. From Year 2, homework is phased in gently to encourage the development of independent study skills, and to embed what children have learned at school. In Year 3, children typically start to complete a regular homework each night of 30 minutes. Homework should never be a struggle, and if children find either the concept or the task too difficult to manage at any time, parents are urged not to persist, but to return the homework to the teacher the next day with a note of explanation. We have no desire to create any tension at home over the kitchen table!

Additionally, Finton House also offers a Supervised Homework Club for those that find it difficult to complete homework at home.
