At Finton House, we believe that assessment and reporting are an integral part of teaching and learning and that good practice enhances the learning of all our pupils.
Assessment at Finton House is carried out through observation, discussion, peer assessment, self-assessment and marking, as well as more formal assessments. It is always carried out sensitively and constructively and allows for continual monitoring of progress and achievement with teaching being adjusted accordingly.
Finton House operates an ‘open door’ policy and the aim when communicating with parents is to be honest and constructive. Parents have an opportunity to talk to teachers before or after school or arrange alternative appointment times. In addition to this, parents’ evenings are held for all year groups twice yearly and provide an opportunity for parents to meet both class teachers and subject specialists.
Parents of children in the Upper School receive a written report prior to parents’ evening which helps to ensure that all discussions are focused and purposeful. Parents receive at least two formal written reports per year.
